New sanctions come into force in October 2009

This concerns the current exemptions for car licence holders (Class B) to drive historic commercial vehicles (e.g. buses over 30 years old, pre 1960 goods vehicles, traction engines) and the exemption which allows PCV licence holders to drive recovery vehicles to recover buses provided they are working for a bus operator.

  • Leicester buses destroyed in a fire

Heartbreaking news is Leicester Leyland PD3/East Lancs no.16, owned by the Leicester Vintage Bus Society was tragically lost in a Leicestershire farm fire on the night of Saturday 22 October. Dennis Dominator no.102, owned by Andy Harris was also destroyed.

According to local news websites, there have been thirteen serious farm fires in Leicestershire and Rutland since July of which at least half are believed to have been started deliberately. On this occasion, the farmer lost fodder, stores, machinery and buildings estimated at half-a-million pounds; ten fire appliances were in attendance.

For the owners of the vehicles concerned, it is not just a loss but a bereavement.
